An Cúrsa Mór: 21 Day Revival Challenge

The Cúrsa Mór Challenge still focuses on motivating you to use your Irish skills daily but delves deeper into the language and its grammar, but still in a simple and easy way. Daily sessions are longer and there are also guided daily activities. This course is particularly suitable for anyone who may be studying Irish and wants to fully understand, appreciate and enjoy the learning process and is keen to further promote the use of Gaeilge.

Gaeilge le Grá is excited to launch our new Irish language learning course, the Cúrsa Cainte. The Cúrsa Cainte is designed for those preparing for Irish in the Leaving Certificate. The course focuses primarily on the Irish Oral but provides valuable insights and tips for the written and aural exams. In-keeping with Gaeilge le Grá’s ethos of promoting an Irish language revival and enjoying the language learning journey the Cúrsa Cainte will remove any anxieties about the exam.

This course includes:

You can start your Revival Challenge today!

The course will be delivered via recorded online lessons every day, with accompanying
supportive and guided exercises resources. These will not be at a set time so as to accommodate for people’s
different lifestyles and you can log in to your daily lesson as early as midnight. In addition you will be invited to attend a weekly online live session to answer any questions or queries, see how you are progressing and meet like-minded learners. It is important to note that the live sessions are not a form of assessment, so ná bí buartha!!

There really is no equipment required other than your laptop, your tablet or your phone. I
personally would recommend that you invest in a nice notebook that you will carry with you
throughout the challenge.

Absolutely yes, although you may prefer to use your laptop because of the bigger screen

No, you will not as people may log on at various different times during the day. This is also
to ensure that nobody will feel under any pressure or any intimidation whilst partaking in
the challenge. It is hugely recommended, however, that participants engage with other
revivalists in the Gaeilge le Grá community.

No, there is no exam and this is to remove the typical pressures associated with Irish
language learning that has not served to increase the language’s usage in communities.
Gaeilge le Grá focuses on motivation, positivity and language revival.

Any questions can be highlighted via email or the Gaeilge le Grá community.

Elements of Irish grammar will be highlighted in almost every lesson but only as it pertains
to practical matter and providing you with the understanding required to do the challenges
and use Irish in a practical, living way. All grammar will be explained simply and through
English. For those who want to delve deeper into the grammar covered, Revival + is the course for you!

Once you have started the course, I’m afraid you cannot cancel. You will, however, have access to course material for 3 months which should enable you to do the course at a time of greater convenience for you. 

Yes absolutely you can! Our new course is available to join at any time and you will have all of the course content for 3 months to ensure you have time to complete it all.

After the course you continue to enjoy, promote and support the revival movement. You will also be
invited and encouraged to continue to log on to the website to avail of Gaeilge le Grá’s many resources and to watch out for upcoming events. Regardless of when you completed your 21 Day Challenge, you will always be welcome at any Gaeilge le Grá event. If you organise an event yourself, be sure to let us know!

The course is for anybody who would like would like to be part of a movement to revive the
Irish language as a living language in their homes and communities, not only on the island of Ireland but in Irish communities
all over the world. 

No, you do not. Naturally, if you have studied Irish before vocabulary etc would be more
familiar, but it is not necessary. Every day you will be acquiring
new skills in the language that you will be able to use as you go about your normal life. Bear in
mind, also, that you will have access to the course for 3 months, so you can take sessions again and again.

There are many reasons to take the 21 Day Challenge. You may be studying Irish at school or
college or you may want to acquire some Irish for your career, such as teaching or becoming
a member of An Garda Síochána or more simply because you’re living in or from Ireland.

Whatever your reasons, Gaeilge le Grá will not only help you acquire Irish but you will also feel immense pride of being a part of an Irish Language Revival Movement.

Course overview
Over the next 21 Days you will learn how to make Irish a living language in your home, workplace and community. All the vocabulary and grammar covered over the course of the challenge will be done in simple easy steps where the focus is to motivate, encourage and facilitate you to make Irish a living language in your life, every day, regardless of where you are in the country or indeed, the world.

 

Phase 1: The revival begins
Day one
Day one of the 21 Day Challenge will explain more about the Irish Language Movement and
the course method. We’ll start from basic greetings and partings to the please and thank
you. The ‘síne fada’ will be fully explained along with how to pronounce Irish words and
you’ll learn how to understand the Irish you see every day.

 

Day two
Building on day one, you’ll start having basic conversations, incorporating an introduction to
the present tense. The ‘elusive’ urú will be explained with focus on the counties of Ireland.

 

Day 3
You’ll begin to introduce yourself to people and fully understand the structure and grammar
involved in doing so. Numbers will also be covered by asking questions about phone
numbers and car registrations.

 

Day 4
We’ll take a closer look at Irish names, learn how to tell the time and how to use Irish every
day both at home and at work along with a very simple explanation of the ‘séimhiú’.

 

Day 5
We’ll take another look at numbers. You’ll learn, and fully understand, how to say where
you are from and where you are living and ask the same of others.

 

Day 6

Today you’ll learn the days of the week and how to talk about your family, using the
‘people’ numbers, and ask others about theirs.

 

Day 7

Today is about focusing on how you can use Irish around the home covering vocabulary that
you can place around the house, highlighting different rooms, appliances, utensils
condiments and food.

 

 

Phase 2: The revival continues with people we know
Day 8
Building on our initial conversations with people, you will learn how to have conversations
about the weather, whilst covering all the seasons and the calendar. Grammar elements of
the past and present tense will be very simply explained as will the Irish ‘ing’.

 

Day 9
On Day 9 you will learn how to say the date, with particular reference to birthdays and
special occasions.

 

Day 10
Saying what you like to do and asking others the same, with particular reference to hobbies.
We will also take a closer look some of the helpful resources available to us to help us in our
Irish Language Revival Movement.

 

Day 11
You will learn how to ‘count’ years, be it ages or references to times past. Terminology
relating to the family will be revised as we talk about who is the oldest and youngest.

 

Day 12
This day will see us delve into grammar with a further look at verbs in Irish although the
focus is on the verbs and vocabulary that we can use every day.

 

Day 13

The present tense continued. Speaking about our daily routine around the home, the
workplace and in the community.

 

Day 14
Today’s session will focus on asking and answering questions, thereby enhancing
conversations via a recap on our two weeks learning

 

 

Phase 3: The Revival goes public

Day 15
You will learn how to use Irish as you go about your business beyond the home by
elaborating upon the skills you have already acquired


Day 16
As always, Day 16 will begin with a recap on how far your revival journey has come and we
will take a closer look at speaking about things in the past.


Day 17
Today, the focus will be on how we use adjectives in Irish by describing ourselves and others
along with describing the clothes we like to wear.


Day 18
Building on the adjectives we learned on Day 17, you will learn how to talk with others
about movies and matches you have seen. The prepositions that we have been quietly
learning and using will be revisited today also.


Day 19
Day 19 begins with an introduction to the future tense in a practical way by ordering food at
a restaurant and making a reservation.


Day 20

After we have a look at what he said and she said, we will focus on celebrations and meeting
new people, especially fellow revivalists, in social settings as well as planning for our own
celebration.


Day 21
After de-mystifying the Modh Coinníollach and having a course review, we will place
particular focus on how to keep our Irish Language Revival Movement going, with Gaeilge le
Grá.

Course overview

All sessions focus on the skills of understanding questions and navigating the oral exam whilst focusing on how material covered for the oral, including the Sraith Pictiúir, can be utilised in the written and aural aspects of the assessment.

Seisiún 1 

This session covers the initial part of the oral exam and provides an overview of all aspects of the Leaving Certificate Irish Exam, with emphasis on pronunciation and the marking scheme.

Seisiún 2

Dates and ages, the family and poetry reading.

Seisiún 3

Adjectives and how to use them smartly, the house, the school and poetry reading. 

Seisiún 4

Your area, facilities, sport and poetry reading.

Seisiún 5

Hobbies and other interests, understanding questions and poetry reading. This session focuses also on the use of the present tense.

Seisiún 6

Holidays and weekends. This session also focuses on the past tense.

Seisiún 7

Emotions and how to utilise them for the written paper, future plans and the future tense.

Seisiún 8

An Ghaeilge, An Ghaeltacht and the importance of the language with focus on the Irish essay.

Seisiún 9

Covering all bases, types of questions and how to answer them smartly.

Seisiún 10

The Conditional Tense and an overall recap, including poetry reading.

This follows the 21 day challenge, and will focus on the more complex elements of Irish Grammar for the enthusiast/learner/student who desires a greater proficiency in Irish. This will aid in your overall competency and fluency in Irish.

This course will assist you if wish to further develop your Irish through reading. The book to be covered here is Bród (Pride). Bród is a modern, light hearted, funny and heart-warming novel written in everyday Irish, by Gráinne, that follows a 20 something year old woman’s journey as she navigates life in 21 st century Ireland.
